Wide Web Inspection
Sentinel system guarantees a 100% print inspection on different kind of film, web widths and production speed.

The film is controlled thanks to of a series of linear cameras placed orthogonally to the direction of the web movement. The cameras can acquire an high resolution images even with very wide web width.

The image is scanned with fixed resolution thanks to an encoder device that provide the speed synchronization. The acquisition is carried out in continuous mode and the image is transferred directly to the computer which performs the real time processing.

Sentinel is a 100% real time print defect detection system enables the reliable detection of both randomly occurring and also recurring print defects on web-fed printing presses. The detected print defects are automatically classified by the system according to the defect type. The system differentiates between four common types of print defects (splash, structure, streaks, hazing).

When setting up a new job (Job Setup) the operator captures a reference image of the print and defines the areas of the repeat that will be checked for print defects. The print defect detection sensitivity can be set for each control area at one of three levels.

Benefits

Sentinel is used either to detect and classify defects or to improve the process and increase the productivity. When a defect is found, the operator is alerted and the type of defect is logged in order to provide a detailed report for each roll.

Sentinel ensures high levels of quality and offer the best solution for your production processes and converting operations maximizing yield, productivity, and quality. The defect information and images stored in our database are used in many ways. Reports, charts, and graphs can be tailored for every need. Defect information can be used to grade, sort, or reject material.

Job SetUp

The software is easy and user-friendly and it doesn’t require any experience in the PC use. Set-Up operation for the product’s change are automatic: the operator has nothing more to do except setting the left and right margin of the film; a Supervisor is necessary only in case of tolerances’ variation (these ‘menu’ need a password).

Tolerances

Defects can be divided into user-defined classes and tolerance set-up can be class-specific. The surface can be divided into more than one area, each one with its own specific set of tolerances. The set-up of new models and of the associated tolerances will become normal routine among the operators or among the supervisors which might be dedicated to this task. Password-protected menus allow selective access to the system and tolerance set-up can be restricted to appointed personnel. The standard operator can only use a simplified tolerances: LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH.

Reel Report

Data about the controls, defects and any other and real time information on the ongoing production can be made available in form of reports or data file.
The reports with the analysis of the detected errors can be graphically or digitally printed, they can be filed and transferred to a host computer.
The Job Report offers the user a powerful tool for internal and external documentation of the quality of the print results. The report function creates a separate report for each inspected reel.

Transversal direction monitor (TD)

During production it is possible to overview the printing quality of the inspected reel in the transversal direction. The graphic shows in real time the distribution of the defect on the transversal web direction.

Machine Direction monitor (MD)

During production it is possible to overview the printing quality of the inspected reel in the web running direction. The graphic shows in real time the distribution of the defect on the web running direction.

Defect History

The Defect History Mode provides the operator with a detailed overview of all print defects, which the system has detected during a job. After calling up Defect History Mode a graphical defect overview (Virtual Reel) appears, into which the system automatically enters every detected defect.

Flagger control

The signal output permits the controlling of an external web marking device (Flagger). The flagger is used, for instance, to mark faulty areas by placing adhesive labels on the web of material. A corresponding entry of the event is automatically generated in the job report for each marking.

Reel change input

Reel change input enable the evaluation of the reel change signals which are issued from the unwinding and rewinding of the printing press. For each reel change a corresponding entry of the event is automatically generated in the job report.

 Gui

The Graphic user interface is user friendly and highly intuitive for any kind of operator.

Technical data

Sentinel W2 is compleatly modular. The resolution and the camera field of view can easly adapted to the application needs. Here are described two examples of configuaration for 1300mm web width.
